Ma'ruf Wants Andika Mighty To Create Conducivity In Papua

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives has approved the Chief of Army Staff (KSAD) General TNI Andika Perkasa as the sole candidate for the TNI Commander after undergoing a fit and proper test. The former Danpaspampres is just waiting to be sworn in by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin hopes that General Andika Perkasa can continue the steps taken by the previous TNI Commander to build security conduciveness in Papua. According to him, the current development of Papua requires harmonization in the fields of welfare and security. "This development will not work if security is not controlled, it is not conducive. I hope that the new Commander-in-Chief will have more, of course, better approaches," said Vice President Ma'ruf in a written statement, Sunday, November 7.

With more concepts that have a better approach, it is hoped that the intensity of security disturbances in Papua will decrease. The Vice President emphasized that the TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto had also implemented good concepts and steps.

"But based on what has been done, I hope there will be better strategic steps later in dealing with security in Papua," he said.

Including, said the Vice President, steps that are more humane while maintaining the spirit of protecting and upholding human rights.

"Yes, of course. More humane but not losing the spirit for protection. Humanistic, but human rights protection and enforcement must be maintained," said Vice President Ma'ruf.
