Mahfud MD Reveals Tommy Suharto Turns Out To Lease Land Guaranteed To The State

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD revealed that the son of the 2nd President Suharto, Hutomo Mandala Putra or Tommy Suharto, actually rented out 124 hectares of land that was guaranteed to the state.

The land located in Karawang, West Java was used as collateral when he applied for Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) and should not be leased to other parties.

"The 124 hectares of land that used to be guaranteed by Tommy Suharto to the state are still being leased and rented to the same thing," said Mahfud in his statement, Friday, November 5.

This fact became known after the BLBI Task Force (Satgas) sent a team and security forces to confiscate assets belonging to Tommy's company, PT Timor Putra Nasional. Even though it is leased to another party, the lease is still carried out and after that the land will be renamed in the name of the state.

"Now we are confiscated and will soon be renamed in the name of the state and we have documents for it," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).

Therefore, Mahfud reminded BLBI obligors and debtors not to rent, sell, or transfer their land or assets that were pledged as collateral to the state.

"If it's not paid off (paid off, red) and the guarantee is still with us, don't try to sell it, rent it out, or transfer it to another party. That's not allowed," he said.

As previously reported, this confiscation is a step by the government to return state assets from BLBI obligors and debtors. The land in the Karawang area, West Java has an area of 124 hectares with a value of Rp600 billion.

Meanwhile, PT Timor Putra Nasional's current debt to the state is IDR 2.374 trillion and it started when the company obtained a loan facility from Bank Bumi Daya, which is now Bank Mandiri.

Prior to the confiscation, the BLBI Task Force had summoned Tommy Suharto and the President Director of PT Timor Putra Nasional (PTN) Ronny Hendrarto Ronowicaksono.
