MAKI Asks KPK To Investigate The Expensiveness Of Paying Formula E In Jakarta

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) appreciates the steps taken by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to investigate allegations of corruption in the international Formula E racing event held in DKI Jakarta.

"MAKI welcomes and gives appreciation to the KPK for responding quickly to things that the public understands as a waste," Boyamin told reporters, Friday, November 5.

He then asked the anti-corruption commission to immediately investigate the overpayment made by BUMD companies in DKI Jakarta to the competition organizers. Boyamin said this overpayment could be a loophole for corruption.

"The price paid to companies that own royalties abroad for the event is very expensive. In fact, based on my records the most expensive among other cities," said Boyamin.

"So Jakarta can organize this Formula E race by paying the most expensive royalties. So this must be investigated whether there are deviations or the price paid must be like that," he added.

Not only that, allegations of corruption can also occur because there are parties who deliberately take advantage of overpayment to reap profits.

"There are several parties who participate as promoters or participate in this Formula E event. Well, it seems that some parties are active as if participating and allegedly there is a concession," said Boyamin.

Thus, the KPK must immediately move to conduct a search.

"This should be investigated by the KPK. How is the price that is formed from royalties actually more expensive than other cities. Is there any form of waste or deviation," he asked.

As previously reported, Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, said that his party was investigating allegations of corruption in the implementation of the international Formula E racing event in DKI Jakarta. He also said there were a number of parties who had been asked for information and clarification to collect data and information.

This is necessary in the ongoing investigation process. "Yes, the KPK is asking for information and clarification from several parties to collect data and information or information needed by the investigative team," Ali told reporters, Thursday, November 4.

He said the investigation process was carried out after reports from the public on allegations of corruption in the organization of these activities.

However, Ali has not been able to specify who the parties are suspected to be involved in or who have been summoned because the investigation process is still ongoing.
