Anticipating Jakarta Floods, Anies' Men Claim Large Drainage System Capacity

JAKARTA - Some areas of Jakarta were flooded some time ago. The drainage system installed in the capital was also questioned. This system is able to accommodate a maximum of 100 millimeters of rainfall per day.

However, Secretary of the Department of Water Resources, Dudi Gardesi, claims that the capacity of the drainage system is quite large. However, he admits that the capacity at all points is not the same.

"100 millimeters per day is big. The calculation can be R2, R5, R10 the probability. So, it can't be flattened for 100 millimeters of rainfall," Dudi said when contacted, Wednesday, November 3.

Moreover, he said, the DKI Provincial Government cannot easily increase the capacity of the drainage system to become deeper. Therefore, there must be a calculation between the distance from the reservoir to the inundated area.

"So, related to this, we can't just explore or enlarge it, because there are limitations related to the allocation," explained Dudi.

In recent times, floods have inundated the Kebon Pala area, Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta for three days. Yesterday, 13 RTs in East Jakarta were also flooded due to the overflow of the Sunter River.

Regarding the occurrence of floods, the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, once mentioned flooding. He said, flooding is always related to the volume of rainwater and the volume of river water. He set a target if the rainfall is below 100 millimeters per day, then Jakarta should not be submerged.

However, if the rainfall is above 100 millimeters per day, Jakarta will be submerged. Then, after the rain stopped, all flood control efforts were immediately carried out, especially the deployment of water pumps. The flood target can dry up within 6 hours.

"If the rain is below 100 millimeters, then there should be no flooding, of course there is something wrong in the management. Likewise, the river flow has returned to its normal point. So 6 hours after that, if the river water doesn't come down, the flooding will continue," said Anies. , some time ago.
