JAKARTA - Phil Collins brings good news to his fans around the world. After having announced his retirement due to various health problems, the 75-year-old musician hinted at the possibility of returning to performing live in the future.
Collins' current physical condition is reported to be improving. After struggling with the complications of the disease for almost two decades, he admitted that he felt much fitter than in recent years.
"I'm healthier now than I've ever been," Phil Collins said in a recent interview with BBC News.
Although his condition is gradually recovering, the singer of "Against All Odds" ensured that he would not appear at his inauguration at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2026 which will be held in Los Angeles on November 14. He chose to miss appearing because he felt his body was not ready for the high demands of performance.
"They asked me to perform and I refused, because you have to be really fit to do that kind of thing," Collins said.
"You have to practice hard, and if you haven't sung for a while, your voice will be exhausted and it won't be good. So, I'd rather not do it," he continued.
However, Collins did not rule out the possibility of returning to the stage in the long term. He admitted that he missed producing music and often thought about returning to his personal studio.
"I will consider it (to appear again), yes. I keep saying to myself, I'd better go back to the studio at home," he said.
His desire to make music is evident. Collins revealed that he was working on a number of materials and writing some song lyrics that were ready to be further produced in the near future.
For information, Phil Collins' medical journey has been quite heavy since he suffered a spinal injury in 2007 which triggered severe nerve damage.
He also has drop foot which makes it difficult for him to walk, and has had five knee surgeries.
Not only that, Collins had a serious kidney problem due to alcohol addiction, before finally managing to get up and celebrate two years of recovery without alcohol.
