JAKARTA - The Lantis finally solved the puzzle regarding their musical direction in the future. Entering its fifth year on the road, the band, which is popular through the song Lampu Merah, officially announced the addition of two core personnel to complete their formation.
Vio (drums) and Feisal (kibor), who previously still had the status of session players, are now officially holding the status of permanent personnel with Giri (bass, vocals), Ravi (guitar, vocals), and Ojan (guitar).
This step was taken not without a strong reason. So far, The Lantis is known for its three-person format which relies on the help of supporting musicians when performing on stage. However, as time goes on, there is a perceived empty space, especially in terms of the depth of arrangement and the artistic vision of the band collectively.
This change is also considered a turning point for The Lantis to get out of their comfort zone and explore a wider music spectrum.
As for Ravi, the decision to inaugurate this new formation was based on the feeling of losing the identity of a complete band. According to him, the trio format that has been carried out so far has begun to feel less optimal in giving life to their works.
"As we went on, the three of us, we started to feel that something was missing. It was like a lack of a band," said Ravi in his statement, Monday, May 4.
In line with Ravi, Ojan added that the presence of Vio and Feisal has a significant impact not only during live performances, but also in the kitchen of creativity. There is a spark of new ideas that emerge when they start working on material together.
It was this emotional and musical involvement that developed from the production process to the stage that convinced them that Vio and Feisal were the puzzle pieces they had been looking for.
"There is one point where we feel that something is incomplete, not live because they have often been with us at gigs, but more to the creative process, arrangements or concepts in general," said Ojan.
"And when we started writing together as five, we realized the sparks were back again," he continued.
Personal closeness is also the main foundation in this recruitment. Giri explained, the process of selecting personnel is not only based on technical ability alone, but also on the factor of a long history of friendship.
Feisal is a childhood friend and neighbor of the original members, while Vio is Ojan's partner since high school. It was this relationship that made the chemistry between them not need to be built from scratch again.
For Vio and Feisal, the transition from supporting musicians to core personnel is a big responsibility and a personal achievement. Vio, who started actively filling the drum position since 2024, feels that this offer is a form of appreciation for his performance so far.
"It feels like from staff to the board of directors. Of course, happy, satisfied because our performance when they were in session was finally accepted well," said Vio.
On the other hand, Feisal has a different story. As an office worker who previously divided his time to help The Lantis, he needed deep thought and family blessing before finally deciding to fully commit to the band. He felt a different inner attachment when playing with The Lantis than when he worked as a supporting musician for other music projects.
After releasing the album "Pilot" (2021) which is full of retro feel, as well as the album "Pancarona" (2024) which is more explorative, The Lantis is now looking to the future with new optimism. This change in formation marks the end of the identity search phase during the first five years and the start of a new chapter that is more musically mature and mature.
"The first five years of The Lantis were a phase of search, formation, and introduction. Now it's time for us to really start. Hopefully from here we can achieve more dreams, we can appeal to more ears, and we can touch more hearts," concluded Ravi.
