Jorginho regrets his misunderstanding of Chappell Roan

JAKARTA - Brazilian footballer Jorginho has finally made an open apology and provided clarification regarding the controversy involving American pop singer Chappell Roan.

After almost a month of wild speculation rolling on social media, the player with the full name Jorge Luiz Frello Filho admitted that there was a big misunderstanding in the incident involving his daughter and his wife during the Lollapalooza weekend in Brazil last March.

The dispute began when Jorginho's 11-year-old daughter was reportedly subjected to bullying by a security guard at a hotel in Rio de Janeiro.

At that time, Jorginho believed that the bodyguard was part of the Chappell Roan team. However, through his official statement, Jorginho corrected the information and expressed his regret for the negative impact on the singer.

"I want to give an update on what happened during the Lollapalooza weekend. I made an initial statement at a time when emotions were running high, after hearing that my son and wife were approached by an adult male bodyguard in an intimidating way. I reacted like a father," Jorginho said, quoted by Variety, Tuesday, April 14.

The man who once played for the Italian National Team explained that after having a deep communication, it was revealed that the security officer was not Chappell Roan's personal staff. The officer turned out to represent another artist who was also staying at the same hotel.

Jorginho stressed that Roan did not know anything about the incident in the breakfast room and did not give any orders to approach his family.

"It's clear that he (Roan) didn't know what was going on at breakfast and didn't ask anyone to approach them. He is very understanding and sympathetic to what happened to our child," said the 34-year-old footballer.

"In the end, this was a misunderstanding, and I'm happy to be able to clarify the facts. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan," he continued.

Chappell Roan himself had previously provided clarification through a post on social media. He emphasized that he valued privacy but had never ordered aggressive action against fans, let alone a small child.

Closing his statement, Jorginho emphasized that although he would always defend his family, he did not condone cyber attacks or hate speech against any party as a result of this incident.

"I do not support or encourage hate speech or online attacks from any party. Respect, empathy, and humility are values that I bring and teach my family every day. For me, this matter is over," he concluded.

For information, this case had triggered a harsh reaction, even the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro had commented on the X platform regarding the incident before the actual facts were revealed.
