JAKARTA - The Bandung-based instrumental rock quartet, Basajan, officially announced a strategic move to expand the international market through a series of Japan Tour 2026.
This journey is a new chapter for the group that consistently carries a local identity - titled Priangan Psychedelic Groove - after successfully giving a positive impression on their first international appearance at the Wonderfruit Festival 2025 in Thailand, some time ago.
The series in the Land of the Rising Sun is not just a matter of showing off on stage, but an effort of cultural diplomacy wrapped in industry professionalism.
Basajan is scheduled to attend a busy agenda at CUEW on April 9-10. On this occasion, they will be involved in Industry Meetings & Pitch Sessions as well as Music Matching Sessions to meet directly with foreign festival promoters, record label owners, and global music industry stakeholders in order to expand the distribution network of works.
The exploration of sounds they offer will reach its peak on April 11, 2026 on the SYNCHRONICITY Festival stage located in the Shibuya district. This festival is known as a platform for cross-genre musicians with strict curation, so Basajan's presence is an important representation of the Indonesian independent music scene in the eyes of a Japanese audience known for being very appreciative of experimental music.
"We see this Japan Tour as a gateway to introduce Basajan to the next level. Not only to perform, but also to build connections and open up new possibilities in the future," said Basajan guitarist and synthesizer player Reyhan, in an official statement received by VOI on Thursday, April 9.
The momentum of this tour feels even more special because it coincides with the launch of their debut album titled "Béwara" on April 10, or exactly one day before they hit Shibuya.
The album, released under the label Bahasa Ibu Records, summarizes ten tracks inspired by Sundanese cosmology, namely Tri Tangtu, which reflects the harmonious relationship between the spiritual dimension, human life, and the universe translated into a progressive instrumental rock arrangement.
After performing in Shibuya, Basajan will continue the relay of the show at several points in Tokyo. They are scheduled to perform at Ruby Room on April 12, followed by a performance in Tokyo on April 13, and closing the tour series at Basement Bar, Shimokitazawa on April 15, 2026.
In addition to bringing music, they also bring visual identity through exclusive merchandise and physical releases in the form of a compact disc (CD) that is specially prepared for the Sakura State market as part of a more in-depth listening experience for new fans there.
