Dave Grohl Surprised His Daughter Secretly Signed a Recording Contract

JAKARTA - Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, is enveloped in a sense of pride and amazement at the achievements of his eldest daughter, Violet Grohl.

The former Nirvana drummer said Violet had signed a record deal and completed her debut album without his interference.

Grohl admitted he was surprised when he heard the news. Violet, who is now 19 years old, has been working hard in the studio with a producer independently.

Grohl admitted that he was not involved in the creative process or the bureaucracy of the industry that his daughter went through.

"So Violet, my daughter, she made this album with a producer called Justin Raisen, and she did it herself," Dave Grohl said in a recent interview on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X.

"He met the producer, they went to the studio every day to make the song, and he just sent me the songs after they were finished," he continued. "I really had nothing to do with this recording. I don't know anything."

Grohl's admiration peaked when Violet gave a surprise at the dinner table. Although he knew his daughter was looking for a label, Grohl didn't expect the process to go so quickly and quietly.

According to him, Violet came to the house just for dinner before finally dropping the "bomb" of the news.

"He asked, 'Hey, Dad, can I come over for dinner tonight?' And I said, 'Sure. What do you want me to cook?' Then he came and told me, 'I've signed a record contract today.' It felt like, oh God. I'm not involved at all, even though I'm the type of dad who wants to always be there and know everything, but he really did everything himself," said Grohl.

Violet herself is known to have officially joined Republic Records in January 2026. This step is a new milestone for his music career after previously releasing the song "Nausea" in 2021, as well as "THUM" and "Applefish" earlier this year.

Interestingly, Violet's independence and talent have had a huge impact on Foo Fighters. Dave admits that his daughter's creative energy is the spark that inspires his band to return to the studio and complete the latest album, "Your Favorite Toy", which is scheduled to be released in April.

This album is their first work since "But Here We Are" which successfully perched at position 8 of the Billboard 200 in 2023.

"The recording is amazing, he is very talented. It really inspired me to make this album (Foo Fighters). Really inspiring," Dave Grohl concluded.
