JAKARTA - After releasing several singles since 2021, alternative soloist Serdadu Sam started his musical journey in 2026 by introducing his first full-length album with the title "Chronicles".

This album is a musical manifestation that combines emotional depth, historical records, and experimental courage.

Released through a major label, "Chronicles" is a new milestone for Kenny - the figure behind Serdadu Sam - who has made it into the nomination for the 2022 AMI Awards.

Through 13 tracks, "Chronic" is not just a collection of commercial songs, but an audio narrative that portrays the reality of life, from greed, failure, to reflections on global human conflict.

The exploration that Kenny made in this album is quite extreme for the mainstream music industry, one of which is through the song titled "Kalibut" which lasts more than 12 minutes. This song is a progressive rock number that specifically responds to the pain of the conflict in Gaza.

"I don't want to be limited by industry rules about duration. The story of a song is finished when it's finished - not when the timer stops," Kenny said in a statement, Wednesday, January 21.

This principle reinforces the position of Serdadu Sam as musicians who prioritize artistic integrity and the integrity of the message rather than just following market trends.

In the process of developing it, which began in 2021, Kenny involved a number of musicians who are no strangers in the industry, such as Mondo Gascaro, Bemby Gusti, Dave Lumenta, to the Moscow Metropolitan Session Orchestra.

The prominent collaboration is seen in the song "Dan Akhirnya Selamanya" which features the drum beat from Bemby Gusti from Sore. This song is called Kenny as "My Way" by Serdadu Sam - a personal message to his two daughters about accepting life and how to find happiness in the midst of inevitable disappointment.

In addition to original material, this album also includes a reinterpretation of the song "Setengah Tiang" by Harry Roesli. With the blessing of the family, Serdadu Sam brought back the legendary work with the touch of a wind instrument and contemporary emotions without losing its original essence.

Kenny explained that this step was not merely an effort to recycle or cover, but a form of spiritual dialogue with the past.

Overall, "Chronicles" is an inner documentation written poetically but still sharp, aimed at anyone who feels alienated in the midst of the crowd but still chooses to continue to fight for life.

"I hope this album can provide a different musical experience to listeners who are willing to take the time to listen and get to know this work further," he concluded.
