Maudy Ayunda Presents "I'm the One You're Looking For" as the Soundtrack for Para Perasuk Film

JAKARTA - Maudy Ayunda introduces her latest music work, "I'm the One You're Looking For", as the soundtrack for the film directed by Wregas Bhanuteja, Para Perasuk.

What Maudy did is not something new. She got the lead role in this film - as Laksmi - and also became the singer for the original soundtrack.

What makes it even more interesting, the inspiration for writing the song actually came from the thick atmosphere during the shooting process.

After the production was completed, Maudy approached Wregas to convey his ideas. By collaborating with Lafa Pratomo as a co-writer and producer, Maudy developed the song's composition after exploring the initial version of the film's piece.

Maudy admitted that, from the world of Para Perasuk, it was very easy for his creative process, because he felt that he had become an integral part of the film's narrative.

The 31-year-old singer did not write the lyrics from his own character's perspective, but from Bayu's point of view, played by Angga Yunanda. This song portrays the fragility of a man who is thirsty for proof but loses his identity in his attempt to please others.

"When writing this song, I imagined that never-ending longing: the longing for acceptance, for a hug, for the feeling that he is enough as he is," Maudy said in her statement, Tuesday, January 20.

"That maybe, what he has been looking for outside all this time, is actually himself, or the presence of someone who is able to see and embrace him completely," he added.

The song, which was produced about a month ago, was designed as an emotional layer that strengthens the characters' minds, especially in describing feelings that fail to be expressed through dialogue. Maudy believes that, although the song is universal, its meaning will be much more exciting if it is enjoyed after watching the film in its entirety.

On the other hand, the film will make history on the international stage. The film will have its world premiere in Park City, USA, as part of the Sundance Film Festival. In the World Cinema Dramatic Competition category, the film competes with ten other selected international films.

Responding to the presence of Para Perasuk at the Sundance Film Festival, Maudy admitted that she was very emotional to see local works being able to penetrate the prestigious stage in the world of independent films.

"I feel very grateful and proud to be a part of Indonesian works that have been recognized on the international stage. It feels like proving that the stories of us can touch anyone, anywhere," he said.

Maudy hopes that through this song, listeners who are experiencing inner struggles or are looking for their identity can feel represented. He emphasizes the deep message about the importance of feeling good about yourself without having to be someone else for the validation of those around you.

"I hope they can feel seen. This song talks about the desire to be enough: to be seen, understood, and sought after. Maybe you don't have to be anything - because you can be - it's just what you've been looking for," Maudy concluded.
