Tony Iommi Hands Over His Guitar To Help With Cancer Treatment

JAKARTA - The legendary guitarist of Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi, has again shown his sincere human side. He managed to raise 50,000 pounds or around Rp976 million through a draw with a prize from one of his collection guitars.

The funds will be distributed to help restore the cancer treatment center at the Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham, England.

This fundraising is a personal step for Iommi, who was diagnosed in 2012 with lymphoma and undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The heavy metal star expressed her deep gratitude, calling the amount collected an extraordinary achievement, while thanking all parties who have participated in this charity lottery.

"I know when I'm there, they treat me very well, everyone is so friendly, the nurses are good, everyone is great and that's what you need," Iommi said, quoted by the BBC, Wednesday, December 10.

Heartlands Hospital itself is raising 150,000 pounds to update facilities at their cancer treatment centers. The initiative from Iommi clearly provides a significant boost in achieving the target.

One of the main focuses of the restoration project in this cancer unit is the purchase of special chairs designed to increase the comfort of patients undergoing chemotherapy sessions that take a long time.

Regarding this, Iommi expressed his approval. He emphasized that the patient comfort factor is very crucial.

"The more comfortable you can make the patient, the better," said Iommi, who understands the physical and mental challenges faced by cancer patients.

"Having the right environment means a lot because you sit there long enough to be treated," he added.

The guitar that became the main prize in this lottery was the Gibson SG model made from mahogany wood. The guitar is one of the instruments that Iommi has had for a long time and he often uses to play at home.

Through this initiative, Iommi not only donated its valuable assets, but also provided real hope for those who are struggling with disease.
