Deputy Minister Of Culture Giring Ganesha Wants To Push The Screening Of Indonesian Religious Musik's Works On Religious Holidays

The upcoming Christmas and New Year moments are a momentum for the Ministry of Culture to encourage the promotion of domestic musicians. Deputy Minister of Education Giring Ganesha Djumaryo conveyed the Ministry of Culture's initiative to support the screening of songs and religious music from Indonesian musicians in public spaces on religious holidays.

As quoted in a ministry press statement on Tuesday, Giring in a meeting with the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar expressed the need for government support to strengthen the national religious music ecosystem.

"The Ministry of Culture and the work team have proposed initiatives to gather various associations, including shopping center and cafe managers, so that during the momentum of celebration of religious holidays such as Christmas and Ramadan, public spaces can play religious music by Indonesian musicians," Giring Ganesha said, quoting ANTARA, December 9.

The Minister of Religion welcomed this step. He stated that he was ready to support the implementation of the initiative.

"The government is ready to provide maximum support, including preparing various resources that are owned, supporting the agenda and programs of the Ministry of Culture to play religious songs from within Indonesia in public places to encourage the revival and sustainability of religious arts in Indonesia," he explained.

As a pilot project, the government will encourage the screening of Christian religious songs with the theme Christmas by local musicians in public spaces during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays.

The next religious song screening initiative will be carried out during religious holidays such as Eid, Vesak, and Nyepi. The pre-carsa is intended to optimize the use of art as a means to revive religious values.
