Still Kutuk Genocide, Bara Suara Feels Dilematis To Withdraw Catalog From Spotify

JAKARTA - Two Bara Suara personnel, Iga Massardi and Gerald Situmorang, also responded to the many musicians who withdrew their music catalogs from the Spotify platform due to the controversy between CEO Daniel Ek.

As is known, musicians who withdraw their catalog from Spotify are those who speak out loud over the endless war and genocide that is taking place in Palestine.

In addition, Ek, through his investment company, Prima Materiala, is considered to have supported the defense company that developed the AI military system.

Responding to what fellow musicians did, Iga called the problems that occurred a dilemma for Bara Suara. On the one hand, they disagree with Ek's actions, but on the other hand, Spotify is the main platform to introduce work to listeners.

"This is indeed a dilemma, like a lot of mental conflicts there. But, we are also thinking about how our listeners can access our songs. And most of them are on Spotify," said Iga when met in Blok M, South Jakarta, Tuesday, October 14.

"But this also doesn't mean we don't support Palestine and others. We remain in our position, where we are anti-genocidal. We strongly reject and we condemn all forms of colonialism or ethnic destruction," continued Iga.

In addition, Gerald explained, Bara Suara had a song called Habis Dark written by Iga, where the song condemned the ferocity of those in power by oppressing the weak.

For Gerald, putting a song that criticizes the war on Spotify into a separate 'attack' for Ek which is considered to bring opposing values.

"And actually Iga has written the title song After Dark. Actually, if the song was on the platform, in my opinion, it would be an attack on it itself," concluded Gerald.
