JAKARTA - The Jakarta International Jazz Festival (JakJazz) marks their comeback as the oldest and first international-scale jazz music festival in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Having been on hiatus since 2019, JakJazz will continue his work and history.

The Festival Director, Tommy Maulana, revealed that this time the event will be held with an outdoor concept at Senayan Park, Central Jakarta on December 20.

"The capacity of the place is about 4,500 people comfortable. But that's the place to 'outdoor'," said Tommy, the son of the founder of JakJazz Ireng Maulana, when met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, as published by ANTARA on Wednesday, September 24.

JakJazz this year carries "Respecting the Legacy, Empowering the Youth" as the main theme, which focuses on local talent regeneration.

The first festival to be held in 1988 will also present international musicians. One that has been confirmed is a Japanese scholar, Motoharu and a jazz musician from the United States.

Tommy said one of the young talents who was confirmed to appear was "the rising star" in Indonesian Jazz music, Natasha Elvira, a student of Nesia Ardi (herdingRia).

In addition to the main event, JakJazz also held a series of "pre-events" events, two months before the main event began, and there were also "post-events".

Tommy added that the public can also look forward to various other "side-event" programs and series that will maintain JakJazz's enthusiasm in reviving the Jakarta program as a Global City. The "side-event" programs and series, such as JakJazz Lab (workworks and creative classes), JakJazz City Beats ("pop-up gigs" and "jamming"), JakJazz Collabs (cross-industrial and lifestyle collaborations), JakJazz Stream and Appreciation Night.

"Since debuting in Ancol in 1988, one of JakJazz's visions is to increase tourism in the capital city. So that's one of them we're also showing this year," said Tommy.

"There is encouragement from DKI for us together with them, making one of the programs to Jakarta Global City in 500 years of DKI Jakarta," he concluded.
