Cholil Mahmud Calls Musicians Must Be Able To Act Fairly Through Small Things

JAKARTA - Cholil Mahmud together with the Greenhouse Effect became one of the musicians who used music in voicing injustice to society.

The 49-year-old musician even stepped down and curated as artists voiced his aspirations in the midst of the protests, during the #SeniLawanTirani event in the Taman Ismail Marzuki area, Cikini, Central Jakarta, Monday, September 1.

Asked about the little things musicians can do in voicing injustice, Cholil actually sees this as having to be practiced earlier than the lives of the musicians themselves.

"Want to do business in good health, it's like the attitude that must be in musicians," Cholil told the media crew.

"They respect the gig schedule, sound check schedule, don't try to pick up other people's schedules. That's a sell-off that must be made among musicians," he continued.

According to him, musicians do not need to ask for excessive privileges, which can actually lead to injustice for other musicians.

"There is no need for excessive privilege, which doesn't really affect technical appearances, so it can lead to discrimination that may occur in the context of music," he said.

The Greenhouse Effect frontman gave an example when musicians deal with sound operators during gigs. For him, when there are many performers who use the same stage, no one should ask for a special mixer that is only intended for one performer.

"I don't want to know what happened, including things that need to be left behind. We are together. So, we can't diagnostic because the organizers have done many things, but then one of the artists, for example, asks, 'I want to block the channel, I don't want to know how to support my performance, I want to block the channel maximally.' While other artists feel, I also need to block the channel if that's the case. So there will be ten mixers again. That's difficult for each other, "said Cholil.

"Well, the feeling of tolerance needs to grow, emergency needs to be abandoned. So, from things like that it can begin to be abandoned. Musicians must understand each other, understand the needs and abilities of promoters," he said.
