JAKARTA - Former Kerispatih vocalist, Sammy Simorangkir, was one of the witnesses filed by 29 singers from the Indonesian Voice Vibration (VISION) as the Petitioner in the judicial review of the Copyright Law which took place at the Constitutional Court (MK) today, Tuesday, July 22.

In his testimony, Sammy shared his experience as a singer after a solo career, in which he was banned from performing Kerispatih's songs.

"I was verbally banned from singing Kerispatih's songs, unless I paid IDR 5 million per song," Sammy said.

"This ban comes from the Kerispatih band, which I strongly suspect came from Badai, the creator of the songs," he continued.

Sammy said the condition got worse after Hurricane left Kerispatih in 2016. The keyboardist actually sent a subpoena so that the songs were not performed again.

"The condition became even more complicated when Hurricane came out of Kerispatih. The storm instead gave a subpoena to the Kerispatih band stating the ban on Kerispatih and I personally to perform his songs," he said.

Sammy is clearly disappointed by what happened. The reason is, he is known by fans as the initial vocalist of Kerispatih, and has contributed to the band.

"I am a show actor who has worked for more than two decades, and is known to the public as the main vocalist of the Kerispatih band," he said.

For Sammy, the legal uncertainty that occurs makes him uncomfortable in carrying out his profession as a singer.

"I personally have experienced a form of legal uncertainty that is very disturbing and uncomfortable" which makes me feel insecure, he said.

Apart from Sammy Simorangkir, 29 VISI singers as reporters also filed Lesti Kejora as witnesses.
