ProBOLINGGO - Karimata for the first time appeared at the festival held by Mount Indonesia Jazz.
The fusion jazz band, which was formed in 1985, filled the legendary slot at the Bromo Mountain Series 1 Jazz which took place at the Java Resort Jiwa Amphitheater Bromo, Probolinggo on Saturday, July 19.
Karimata's presence was warmly welcomed by thousands of people who had packed the show area. That night, Karimata was present with three original personnel "Candra Darusman (keyboards), Aminoto Kosin (keyboards), and Budhy Haryono (drums)" along with three session players, namely Indro Hardjodikoro (bass), Dony Koeswinarno (flute, saksofon), and Noldy Benjamin (guitar).
Without further ado, three instrumental songs were performed "opened with Dahaga, the first track on the debut album Definitely (1987). Then continued with Relief and Gringgo from the album Five (1987).
Candra Darusman's appearance is so strong that it reminds the heyday of the jazz fusion genre in Indonesia in the 1980s. Without lyrics, what speaks are melodies, rhythms, and syncopy.
Seeing the audience who enjoyed the old songs so much, Candra Darusman expressed his appreciation, as well as introducing two other Karimata personnel who could not join to appear.
"Thank you for the appreciation. The first song is titled Dahaga, by Erwin Gutawa. Then the second song, Relief, was created by Denny TR," said Candra. But Erwin Gutawa and Denny TR can't attend this time here.
Candra also gave a little introduction to the audience present. He explained how jazz as a music genre has many types.
"Jazz is indeed a very broad word, this genre has many variations. Earlier we heard jazz smooth, then there was jazz rock fusion, then there was swing," he said. Yes, jazz is a lot of types, all jazz, because everything has improvisations.
Karimata's appearance continued with bringing Childhood, Today It's Ours, and The Story of Life. To sing these songs, they present Windyili, a young jazz singer from Semarang.
