JAKARTA - The All-Indonesian Composite Association (AKSI) through its official Instagram account announced that an open discussion scheduled for Thursday, April 17 was canceled because the party invited refused to attend.
The parties invited were the Indonesian Voice Vibration (VISION), the Federation of Indonesian Musician Unions (FESMI), and the Association of Singer Artists, Songwriters and Musicians of the Republic of Indonesia (PAPPRI).
"Today's OPEN DEBAT event will not be held. We apologize because the Debate participants we invited have confirmed their absence," wrote ACTION in the uploaded statement.
The association led by Piyu also uploaded a reply letter from the three music associations, which was received two days before the discussion schedule.
VISION in its reply included three response points. The singer association led by Armand Maulana expressed his gratitude for the invitations received and supported all activities and initiatives that encourage constructive changes to the music ecosystem in Indonesia.
However, they prefer to focus on the application for judicial review of the Copyright Law submitted to the Constitutional Court (MK), while overseeing the legal process related to copyright problems currently rolling in the Supreme Court, as well as encouraging improvement of governance and performance of the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) and the Collective Management Institute (LMK).

"The things above are the focus of us at this time, and therefore we will not participate in all dialogue activities organized by ACTION," reads the VISION reply letter.
Meanwhile, FESMI and PAPPRI sent identical reply letters for invitations from ACTION. They refused to attend because they felt open discussions were no longer needed, given the many discussions that had been held. Moreover, there was never a middle ground because each one held different principles.
"That the dialogue between our representatives and the ACTION has been carried out repeatedly on various different opportunities, places, and nuances, and in the end it can be seen that the two parties have different principles from each other, especially in connection with the Performing Rights & Direct Licensing," reads a reply letter from FESMI and PAPPRI. Thus, as an organization, we decided not to participate in a series of dialogue activities held in the future regarding Performing Rights and Direct Licensing.
The two associations also conveyed four points of attitude, namely: Following and overseeing the process of revising the Copyright Law in dialogue forums organized by the authorities in the process; Participating in overseeing the legal process related to ongoing royalties issues; Requesting the Government as the executor of the Law to take a firm stance regarding all royalty aspect problems; Be critical to always encourage improvements in governance at LMKN & LMK.
The rejection of VISION, FESMI and PAPPRI became very logical, considering that the last discussion held by AKSI by presenting Rayen Pono and Kadri Mohamad also did not end with any decision that resulted in easing confusion about music copyright.
In addition, the judicial review of the Copyright Law at the Constitutional Court will enter its inaugural trial on April 24. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the case between Ari Bias and Agnez Mo is still ongoing at the Supreme Court, and the revision of the Copyright Law is still in progress at the DPR RI.
