JAKARTA - The National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) will hold a dialogue meeting with stakeholders of the Indonesian music ecosystem on February 13. This event was held to respond to the decision of the Central Jakarta Commercial Court on the Ari Bias and Agnez Mo cases, which caused a polemic that led to pros and cons regarding the relationship between songwriters and singers.
"Frankly, subjectively as a singer, I am concerned about Agnes Mo's case with Ari Bias, because this songwriter's lawsuit could be an unfavorable precedent for the music ecosystem in Indonesia," said Ikke Nurjanah, LMKN Commissioner for Public Relations through a press release, Sunday, February 9.
"The Copyright Law (UUHC) also regulates protection for performers, not only for popular singers, but applies to all performers throughout Indonesia," he continued.
In the dialogue meeting later, LMKN invites songwriters, singers and Musicians, promoters and event organizers (EO), song users in public areas with the aim of commercial, academic and legal practitioners, as well as associations and communities that become stakeholders of the music ecosystem.
Ikke said that dialogue meeting events are important so that the Indonesian music ecosystem can become conducive while preventing songwriters from flocking to challenge singers.
"If this polemic continues, it will make the situation that is not conducive and become a precedent where songwriters can sue singers," said Ikke.

"I believe that with the dialogue meeting, all of these disputes will be shared, and will produce an agreement on the arrangement of royalty governance in Indonesia", he added.
Furthermore, Dharma Oratmangun as Chair of the LMKN expressed hope that the dialogue meeting could produce a lot of input, which would later be continued as a consideration in the UUHC revision.
"In this dialogue meeting, it is hoped that input can be obtained which can be used as a proposal to the Government and the DPR to be taken into consideration in revising the Copyright Law which is currently in the process of being discussed in the DPR," said Dharma.
"The important thing is that singers and songwriters don't get stuck together, but together invite promoters, EOs, and other users to obey the law to carry out their obligations to apply for licenses and pay royalties through LMKN," he said.
