"I also think that today's children are dividing music based on the lyrics more than based on the sound: happy lyrics, sad lyrics, or melancholic lyrics that contain longing," Laufey said, citing Variety, Wednesday, December 11.
The 25-year-old songwriter sees the existence of social media as an important factor that forms the way young people today look at music.
"I think because music has become a visual form with social media, the real lyrics are what people categorize," he said.
"So yes, for example when I was on a stage with Olivia (Rodrigo) and Chappell (Rian, on the red carpet of Rodrigo's recent premiere), I don't think people will say, 'Wow, what is this random jazz singer doing here doing?' I think it's also because of my age and the way I present and market my music, "he continued.
