Jon Davison Opens His Voice After Yes Sued For Alleged Stealing Copyright For The Song Dare To Know

JAKARTA - Jon Davison (vocals) finally opened his voice after he and Steve Howe (guitar) as personnel of Yes, were sued for allegedly stealing copyright for the song "Dare to Know" which was included in the album The Quest (2021).

Previously, Riz Story, a musician who was once on the same music project as Davison, filed the lawsuit.

Story claims the song 'Dare to Know' is the result of a plagiarism of the song 'Reunion' which he recorded in 2012.

Davison through his Facebook account Yes also gave an explanation. The 53-year-old musician admitted that he was surprised after hearing Story filing a lawsuit. He denied the claim and called it fictitious.

"It's hard to express in words how it feels to wake up one day and hear that someone I think is a friend has filed a case that is not only completely fictitious but also defamation against me," said Jon Davison, citing Facebook uploads Yes, Friday, November 22.

"Although my initial reaction was not to say anything in the face of this blatant lie and reckless lawsuit, I feel I have to respond to the personal slander that has been included in it because I have been deeply injured," he continued.

Davison's explanation is quite long. He admitted that he was not a 'Dare to Know' writer and had never heard of 'Reunion'.

He also emphasized that he did not steal Reunions', which he said had a very general series of notes and could be found in hundreds of compositions that had been made since two centuries ago.

Davison said he had tried to contact his story and lawyer. "They refused to respond. And even when our manager asked them to respond, we got an email containing threats."

"And it goes against the wrong narrative, and we believe it is slander, filed by this lawsuit. We believe that Mr. Story may try to'steal' credit on our album, and get publicity for himself, after 12 years of frustration with his own career." he said.
