JAKARTA - United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) or the Association of Musicians and Trade Unions have again expressed their solidarity with Palestine. They support what Massive Attack voiced over what happened at The Great Escape music festival.

As is known, hundreds of musicians withdrew from The Great Escape after learning the alleged sponsor of the festival supported what Israel had done to Palestine.

"Musisi dan pekerja budaya memiliki kekuatan untuk menahan kerja kita guna menuntut perubahan," tulis UMAW dalam keterangan unggahan Instagram.

It was also stated that in the past week, dozens of artists participated in boycotting sponsors of The Great Escape and 120 artists withdrawing from performances.

"It's great to think that in 2024 promoters and festivals still don't understand that as artists, our music is sold but our humanity and morality are not," Massive Attack said in a statement.

UMAW also reminded musicians to remember that what was done by boycotting sponsors was related to their solidarity with Palestine.

"We cannot continue activities as usual because Palestinians continue to face genocide," UMAW said.

Musicians don't want our music, passion, and cultural impact to be associated with the terrible genocide in Palestine assisted by these companies. As cultural workers, we have the opportunity not to involve our workers in these festivals.
