Corey Taylor: The Risk Of Working On Vol Albums. 3 Is The Same As Making Iowa

JAKARTA - Corey Taylor tells the story of the Vol album. 3: Slipknot's Subliminal Verses and reveals that the risk of making the album is the same as making Iowa.

While appearing at the Pirate Radio Seton Hall, 89.5 FM WSOU to support his latest solo album CMF2, Corey discussed the 2004 Slipknot album which will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year.

Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses is produced by Rick Rubin and features songs such as Duality, Pulse Of The Maggots, and Vermilion.

The album also features Before IForget who won the Grammy group for Best Metal Act. This is the follow-up to their second album, Iowa (2001).

"Oh, man. I mean, of course the acoustic things we do with songs like Circle [and] Vermilion Pt. 2. I mean, really dive... That's where we're really starting to show our artistic side, because it's something we know we can do and we've done in the past, but we've never really been given the chance to do it," via Blabbermouth.

We also know that if we keep trying to force ourselves, we're going to turn into someone who sounds dishonest, doesn't sound legitimate. That's one of the reasons why we stopped and said, 'We need to expand our limits and we need to take this risk.' And people don't notice it, working on a Vol album. 3 has the same risk as making Iowa," he continued.

"So, in lyric, sonic and creative terms, we were able to work together, even though at that time we were divided, and we created something that to this day might be apart from some of my approaches to singing, some of the songs, it might be one of the best things I've ever done.

The album was released on May 25, 2004, topped second on the Billboard 200 chart, and sold 243,000 copies in the first week.
