Nayl Called Less Beautiful Maia Performs Nirvana Song At Indonesian Idol, Adi Tamtomo: Grunge Is Not As Long As It Is Noisy, Dirty, Or Hard

JAKARTA - The appearance of Nayl Author in the Spectar Show 7 round of Indonesian Idol last week made a scene in cyberspace. However, his action of singing Nirvana's song Smells Like Teen Siprit also received criticism from one of the judges, Maia.

Maia responded by saying that the Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) that Nayl idolizes is one of the singers who can perform the song so beautiful.

According to the vocalist and guitarist of the Artificial Sun band, what Maia conveyed about 'beautiful grunge music' is fine in the context of talent search events.

"What we are looking for here is how the contestants explore and then present the song in front of the jury and the audience with all the techniques and capabilities they control so that the song can not amaze the jury but can also be enjoyed by a wider segment," said Adi Tamtomo.

"Out of context, talent search events, 'beautiful grunge music' is also very important, because grunge is not just a noisy origin, a dirty origin, or a harsh origin. But how to combine ripples, vocal melodies, and lyrics, so that the messages and emotions that are to be conveyed in the song can be felt and accepted by music lovers in general," the man who has worked on music videos from Conspiracy, Cupumanik, The Satmoko, and Tiger Combat added.

Then, Adi Tamtomo said that the appearance of Nayl and the new arrangement of Smells Like Teen Spirit, which was presented that night, felt right with the vocal character of the singer who screened naturally.

In addition, he said, Nayl played guitar which ideally became more value because he was required to mutitasking between singing and playing musical instruments.

"Nayl's performance was opened with a clean guitar with a low vocal tone, maybe making an audience think 'what will this iconic song be like?' but it turned out that rock was still made and ended with a high vocal tone, plus quite an interesting stage action," Adi Tamtomo detailed.

"Maybe next time Nayl can better adapt his wardrobe to the song he chose to be more harmonious and thematic," he concluded.
