Solo Guitar Steve Vai In The Skyscraper Album Apparently Taken From The Demo Version

JAKARTA - Steve Vai discussed the process of recording David Lee Roth's Skyscraper album in an interview with Eonmusic.

Skyscraper, David's second full-length album since leaving Van Halen in 1985, made this flamboyant frontman experiment with more contemporary sound-sounds than his debut album, Eat 'Em and Smile (1985).

This album also marks the first time David has sat in the producer chair, with Steve.

Talks about Skystraper emerged when Steve discussed the 1991 album VAI / GASH (recorded in 1991) recently released through Mascot Label, and the difference between his experience in the studio on David's two albums.

"Dave and I are really (a team) forensic, because this is his first production, and he has good ears, but we may lack producers who make rock and play albums as a career," Steve was quoted as saying by Blabbermouth on Friday.

"The album is different, Ted Templeman [Produser Van Halen and album Eat 'Em And Smile] just, like, 'OK, let's do it', and he knows how to catch'something', but Dave has to have done that for so long that he wants to navigate to something different."

That's when Steve revealed that his solo game on the album was taken from the rough demo they had executed before the recording.

"My guitar solos? All right, for example, I demonstrated all that Skyscraper stuff, and Dave really liked guitar solos so I had to use solo demos," he said.

"I don't really want to, but the committee (all members of the band and producers) got involved. And that's David's band, you know, and I don't have a problem with that," Steve concluded.
