JAKARTA - Wolfgang Van Halen, former band bassist Van Halen and son of late guitarist Eddie Van Halen, provided updates on the progress of the recording session for Mammoth WVH's second album.
The effort will be a follow-up to the self-titled album Mammoth WVH, which arrives in June 2021, about five years after the 31-year-old began collecting ideas for his solo career.
"I've recorded most of the next album. The plan is to focus, and try to do the best I can. After all, that's what made the first album work, so I tried to catch that ethos again for this follow-up album," Wolfgang told Ireland's Overdrive.
"Basically, I only write music that follows my heart, and my taste, and finally, music that makes me happy."
Speaking in more detail about the recording process for the second album Mammoth WVH, Wolfgang said he was back doing it all alone.
"As I did with my debut album. I know this may look selfish [tripping], but that's how it works for me. I like to fully immerse in music in all its aspects. I think a lot of people have tried to turn it into something else, saying things like, 'Oh, that's because he doesn't want to pay other musicians,' and that' and that's not at all," Wolfgang explained.
"This is a sacred experience for me. It is my project, and an artistic outlet for me and my mental health. I am very lucky that I have this amazing live band, so I can bring this creation to life on stage."
Furthermore, Wolfgang likened the Mammoth WFH to Nine Inch Nails in the way Trent Reznor creates all the music, records it, produces it, and so on, and then he has a band that can take these songs on stage when needed.
"I'm not comparing myself to Trent, but this is more of an interesting duality of this approach, which is very fun, and very satisfying," he concluded.
