JAKARTA - Executive Vice President of PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) Thomas Wijaya, revealed that Indonesia is still one of the largest motorcycle markets in the world. The massive domestic market scale is considered a strong foundation for the growth of the national automotive industry.

"We also see that the global motorcycle market is 50-60 million motorcycle markets a year. Well, Indonesia, this market is number 3, above 10 percent, so last year our market was 6.4 million which is it grew one percent compared to 2024 6.3 (million units)," said Thomas when met in Central Jakarta, not long ago.

Based on data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), national motorcycle sales throughout 2025 were recorded at 6,412,769 units. This figure is up about 1 percent compared to 2024 which was at the level of 6,333,310 units. This achievement further confirms Indonesia's position as a major player in the global two-wheel market.

"So we are the third largest market in the world. Of course this is also an opportunity, an opportunity, an advantage for all of us, for all of our industries," said Thomas.

Not only from the market side, AHM's performance at the global level is also quite impressive. In Honda's internal world, AHM often competes for the top position, supported by domestic production capacity that almost touches 5 million units per year.

"On the other hand, we, Astra Honda Motor, also have a position that if the world, sometimes number one, sometimes number two, because last year we almost reached five million domestic production units, yes, so about 4.98, so it also increased by one percent compared to 2024," said Thomas.

He added, only two countries are above Indonesia in the list of the largest motorcycle markets, namely India and China. "So the largest market is if it's not India, China, then the third one is in Indonesia," he said.

Apart from being strong in the domestic market, Indonesia also plays an important role as an export production base. Throughout last year, AHM recorded exports of 223 thousand units in the form of complete (CBU) and almost 1 million units in the form of disassembled (CKD). If totaled in the last five to eight years, AHM exports have approached 2.5 million units.

"Then for localization, the average is 45-55 percent of TKDN (Domestic Component Level). We want AHM to be more useful, to grow sustainably and of course to meet the needs of many people to support economic movement," he concluded.
