JAKARTA - Yamaha Motor has finally officially entered the electric two-wheeled vehicle market in India by introducing its first electric scooter, the EC-06. This motor is positioned as an urban electric scooter that is specifically designed for daily mobility needs.

Available in one color, White Blue, this scooter was developed as a product that has a close relationship with River Indie. The design carries a horizontal core structure, upright proportions, and a sturdy appearance aimed at improving stability and ease of use in dense city traffic.

"EC-06 marks an important step in Yamaha's journey towards sustainable urban mobility. As India accelerates its transition to a carbon-neutral future under the visionary leadership of the government, Yamaha is proud to support this national agenda through high-quality electric innovations. Designed for everyday travel, it balances efficiency with performance, offering impressive range and intuitive features," said Yamaha Motor India Group Chairman Hajime Aota.

Talking about performance, the EC-06 relies on an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) motor combined with a 4 kWh fixed battery. The combination produces a peak power of 6.7 kW (9 hp) and a maximum torque of 26 Nm, with a top speed claimed to reach 79 km/h.

Launching from Gaadiwaadi, Tuesday, February 3, Yamaha also claims that the mileage of this scooter is up to 169 kilometers in one charge, making it one of the farthest in its class. Charging can be done through a standard household electrical socket, with a full charge time of about eight hours.

The battery comes with a three-year warranty or 30,000 kilometers, whichever comes first. To support durability, the motor and battery have IP67 certification, while other electronic components have an IP65 rating to protect against dust and water.

EC-06 is equipped with three driving modes, namely Eco, Standard, and Power which allows the rider to adjust between efficiency and performance. There is also a Reverse mode to facilitate maneuvering at low speeds.

The front suspension uses a telescopic fork with hydraulic dampers, while the rear relies on coil springs. The braking system uses 200 mm discs on the front and rear wheels supported by a Combi Brake System.

Driving information is displayed via a color LCD screen, including speed, battery status, driving mode, to connectivity data. All lighting is LED, as well as smart features activated via the Yamaha Motor Connect R application.

Practicality is also a concern with a storage space under the seat of 24.5 liters to carry daily necessities. Finally, in terms of price, the Yamaha EC-06 is released at a price of 167 thousand Lakh or equivalent to Rp30.4 million and in the initial stage is only marketed in certain cities through the Yamaha Blue Square premium dealer network.
