JAKARTA - Vehicle manufacturers from Japan, Honda, have reached a milestone by successfully producing 500 million motorcycle units globally through a 125 cc scooter unit that has just left the assembly line in India.
This is a major achievement achieved by manufacturers since distributing their first production motorcycle, Dream D-Type in 1949.
The 500 millionth unit is the Activa 125 which is out of the Honda's Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) Plant 4 production line on Vithalpur.
"We have built customer confidence through our various products and services, which will allow us to reach a cumulative production volume of 500 million units," said Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe quoted on Saturday, May 24.
The expansion is now Honda's main goal even though it has reached 40% of the global motorcycle market share by 2024.

This is also assisted by production lines from Honda which have spread in various regions such as South Asia and South America. This is evidenced by the four largest factories in the region having an annual capacity of 6.14 million units per year.
"I would like to thank our customers and all stakeholders involved in achieving this milestone, from development to production, sales, and services," Mibe added.
Activa 125 joins a model like Cub which became Honda's 100 millionth unit in 1997 and then Gold Wing became the 300th millionth unit from the manufacturer in 2014.
Honda Activa 125 is one of the best-selling models in India with sales of 2.5 million units per year of both the 110 and 125 types.
