Denza Z Ready to Launch, This BYD Sport Car Breaks 1,582 HP

JAKARTA - BYD has started to open the card for Denza Z. Citing a report from CarNewsChina, Friday, June 12, the electric sports car from the premium brand Denza was recorded to have a peak power of 1,582 hp in the homologation process, i.e. testing and official approval before the vehicle was marketed in China.

Denza Z is scheduled to launch in July. The car comes in two body options, an open-top version and a closed-top version, both with four seats. Its top speed reaches 350 km/h.

This model is different from Denza's character so far. The brand under BYD is better known for comfortable minivans, large SUVs, and luxury cars for long-distance travel. Denza Z is on another track: a low, aggressive sports car, and clearly made for drivers.

The design uses a slanted hood with original air ducts, large rear fenders, a sporty diffuser, and diamond-shaped taillights.

The open-top version uses a soft roof and semi-hidden door handles. The car uses 20-inch rims with 255/40 tires in the front and 265/40 in the back.

Its dimensions are 4,780 mm long, 1,990 mm wide, 1,350 mm high, and 2,780 mm wheelbase. CarNewsChina notes that this size is 52 mm longer than the electric Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Coupe. The empty weight of the open-top version reaches 2,290 kg.

The closed roof version uses a door handle with a flat body, dark pillars and roof, and wider rear tires. It is 20 mm lower than the open roof version, but the cabin still accommodates four seats. The maximum speed is 300 km/h.

There is also a Denza Z with a closed roof with a sports package. This version gets more aggressive bumpers and a large rear wing on the trunk door. The length becomes 4,870 mm. The tire size is also more extreme: 275/35 ZR21 in front and 325/30 ZR21 in the back.

Thanks to the additional downforce from the rear wing, this sports package version can reach speeds of up to 350 km/h. For comparison, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Coupe has a top speed of 317 km/h.

The Denza Z's massive power comes from three electric motors. A front motor produces 500 kW or 670 hp. The two rear motors produce a combined power of 680 kW or 912 hp. In total, it reaches 1,180 kW or 1,582 hp.

For comparison, the AMG GT Coupe has a peak power of 860 kW or 1,153 hp. On paper, the Denza Z is clearly not coming just to enliven the market.

The electric motorcycle uses an LFP battery. LFP batteries are lithium iron phosphate batteries that are widely used in electric cars because they are relatively durable and more thermally stable. The battery capacity has not been announced.

Denza Z was previously claimed to be able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2 seconds.

The car will also be equipped with DiSus-M magnetic rheological active suspension. Simply put, this system can quickly adjust the suspension characteristics according to road conditions and driving style.

Denza Z is also equipped with very fast charging and DiPilot 5.0 driving assistance system, which is a sensor-based and software-based driver assistance technology.

The launch of the Denza Z comes as Denza's brand performance has started to improve. According to China EV DataTracker quoted by CarNewsChina, Denza delivered 15,620 vehicles in China in May, up 7.3 percent from the same period last year.

Through Denza Z, BYD is trying to expand the image from a mass electric car manufacturer to a player who is also able to make high-performance electric sports cars.
