JAKARTA - BYD officially introduced the Seagull 2026, or known as Atto 1 in the Indonesian market. The tiny electric car made its debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show with a number of feature and technology updates.
Launching Carnewschina, Tuesday, May 12, this latest model comes in four variants with a starting price of 69,900 yuan or around Rp180 million to 85,900 yuan or equivalent to Rp221 million as the highest variant.
The main highlight of the 2026 Seagull update lies in the presence of the "God's Eye B" smart driving assistance system or DiPilot 300 which is available as an additional option. This technology package is already equipped with Lidar sensors and makes the price of the vehicle increase to 90,900 yuan to 97,900 yuan.
In terms of appearance, BYD presents two new colors, Mango Orange and Mint Green, complementing the previous choices such as Warm Sun White and Peach Powder. The car also uses 16-inch "Starlight" wheel rims and the latest LED taillight design with an updated logo shape.
The dimensions of the vehicle remain compact with a length of 3,780 mm, width of 1,715 mm, height of 1,540 mm, and wheelbase of 2,500 mm. Entering the cabin, BYD added a new interior theme called Oatmeal Rice. The entertainment system relies on DiLink 150 with a high-resolution 12.8-inch touchscreen that supports 3D vehicle display and personalized navigation.
For features, DiPilot 300 allows City Navigation with Autopilot (CNOA), traffic light detection, to the ability to read roundabout conditions. While from the comfort side, there is a 50W wireless phone charging, heated front seats, and an electric six-way driver's seat.
The embedded safety technology is also quite complete, ranging from the Driver Monitoring System (DMS), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), to a five-way driving recorder. All variants of the Seagull 2026 use a single electric motor with a capacity of 55 kW or the equivalent of 74 hp with a maximum torque of 135 Nm.
BYD offers two battery options, namely 30.08 kWh with a range of up to 305 km and a 38.88 kWh battery that can travel up to 405 km. Throughout last year, Seagull sales in China reached a peak in April with a figure of 34,005 units.
However, after recording 30,708 units in June, sales have not returned to break through the 30,000 unit level per month. Intense competition in the compact electric vehicle segment is one of the causes.
This model is now under pressure from Geely Xingyuan, which was one of the best-selling new energy vehicles in China last year. In addition, a number of new models have also begun to enliven the market, such as the Arcfox T1 and Leapmotor A10 which launched earlier this year.
