Geely Emgrand i-HEV Fuel Consumption Reaches 2.22 L/100 Km, Sets World Record

JAKARTA - Geely Auto officially introduced the fifth generation Emgrand i-HEV hybrid at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show. This sedan is claimed to record fuel consumption of only 2.22 liters per 100 km in real road testing.

As reported by Carnewschina, Monday, April 27, the fuel consumption record was submitted as a Guinness World Record for the lowest consumption on a mass-produced hybrid vehicle. The manufacturer said the figure was obtained through a circular road test in Hainan and claimed to be the most efficient globally under comparable testing conditions.

Geely also stated that this achievement is more than 12 percent more economical than the results of similar tests for the Toyota Prius, although the details of the testing methodology were not explained in detail. From a technical point of view, the Emgrand i-HEV carries a P1+P3 dual motor configuration combined with an integrated 11-in-1 electric drive system.

The main motor is capable of generating up to 230 kW of power, which according to Geely is equivalent to 1.72 times the output of a typical Japanese hybrid system. The special hybrid engine used is also claimed to have a thermal efficiency of 48.41 percent, which is said to be one of the highest for mass production engines today.

In the WLTC standard, the active electric system is on more than 80 percent of driving conditions, so it can reduce engine working time by more than 27 percent compared to conventional hybrids. This car can also run in full electric mode up to 66 km/h.

For performance, acceleration from 0-30 km/h can be achieved in 1.84 seconds with a system response of only 10 milliseconds. Geely also embeds EOC active noise damping technology and engine stop position prediction features, which are claimed to be able to reduce vibration during start by up to 32.7 percent.

The cabin noise level is only 1 dB higher than that of pure electric vehicles. In terms of durability, this vehicle has passed laboratory tests for 15,000 hours or the equivalent of 4.8 million km, and has been tested in extreme conditions with a temperature difference of close to 100 degrees Celsius and an altitude of up to 4,650 meters.

Geely ensures that i-HEV technology will be expanded to a number of other models by 2026, including the Xingrui, Xingyue L, Boyue L, and Emgrand lines. Pre-sales of the Xingrui i-HEV and Xingyue L i-HEV have been open since April 19.

As an entry-level sedan, the fifth generation Emgrand is still positioned in the affordable segment. Previously, this model was reported to be priced from 65,800 yuan (equivalent to Rp165 million) to 71,800 yuan (Rp180 million) for the latest variant, making hybrid technology more accessible in a competitive price class.
