JAKARTA - BMW has just unveiled (world premiere on April 22, 2026) the new face of the most luxurious electric sedan of the i7 brand for the 2027 model year. Not just a simple refresh, this i7 gets the most significant overhaul in BMW's product life cycle history, by adopting the future design language "Neue Klasse" combined with a drastic battery technology leap.
This step seems to be a clear message from BMW that they are ready to regain the attention of technology-loving sultans who are looking for luxury without emissions.
The first thing that caught the eye was the change in the fascia area. BMW abandoned the controversial tiered headlight design and replaced it with a single sharp daytime running light (Daytime Running Lights) just below the hood line. Interestingly, consumers can now order a crystal lamp option that has 12 individual crystals to give an exclusive shine effect.
Then, the typical BMW kidney grille is now made slimmer but extends downwards, complete with LED light frames that are standard. At the back, the elongated brake lights are now made closer to the center of the trunk, in line with the design line of the latest iX3 SUV.
Entering the cabin, you are greeted by technology that looks like it came from a science fiction movie. BMW introduced the Panoramic iDrive Display, where the traditional instrument panel behind the steering wheel is removed. Instead, driving information is projected onto a dark glass panel that stretches from the A-pillar to the A-pillar at the base of the windshield.
The control center is a hexagonal touch screen measuring 17.9 inches, plus a 14.6-inch special screen for the front passenger. Not to forget, a futuristic steering wheel with a unique pillar design at 12 and 6 o'clock gives a different driving sensation.
Sixth Generation Battery Technology
Launching the manufacturer's official website, Thursday, April 23, the i7 2027 is said to carry the sixth generation eDrive technology. Using a new cylindrical battery cell with a capacity of 113 kWh, this battery has 20 percent higher energy density than the previous model. Obviously, the mileage is further and charging is also faster.
The latest i7 now supports charging speeds of up to 250 kW (up from 195 kW). BMW claims charging from 10 to 80 percent takes only 28 minutes. The highest variant, the i760 xDrive, is expected to be able to travel up to 350 miles (about 563 km) on a single charge.
All variants of the model and drive systems of the new BMW 7 Series Sedan will be built on a single production line at the BMW Group Dingolfing Plant. This means that the BMW Group Dingolfing plant once again takes on the role of the main plant for the new BMW luxury class models.
The start of production and global market launch will begin in July 2026.
