Launched on March 5, Here is the 7-Passenger BYD Electric SUV Coming with 1,000V Technology

JAKARTA - BYD is heating up the big SUV competition with the launch of the official image of BYD Datang (BYD Great Tang) which is scheduled to launch on March 5. This model is projected to be the largest SUV in the Dynasty Series line, while confirming BYD's ambitions in the large capacity premium electric vehicle segment.

Before being officially released, Datang has been pre-registered with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) as a 6- to 7-passenger SUV. Its dimensions are really bulky with a length of between 5,263 mm to 5,302 mm, a width of 1,999 mm, a height of 1,790-1,800 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. This posture confirms its position as an upper-class family SUV with a spacious cabin.

In terms of performance, there are several power configurations. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant is available in two peak power options, namely 300 kW and 370 kW. Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive (AWD) variant carries a dual motor system with 215 kW of power in the front and 370 kW in the rear.

This large SUV is estimated to be able to accelerate to a top speed of 240 km/h or even 250 km/h, depending on the variant. Its empty weight ranges from 2,640 kg to 2,970 kg, with a gross weight between 3,245 kg to 3,575 kg. To support performance, BYD equips the Datang with a choice of 265/45R21, 255/50R20, or 275/45R20 tires. The width of the front wheel base is recorded at 1,715 mm and the rear at 1,725 mm. Its energy source relies on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries that are known to be durable and stable.

In terms of features, Datang comes standard with a panoramic sunroof that reinforces the luxurious impression. The height of the vehicle is also influenced by the type of suspension chosen: 1,790 mm with air suspension and 1,800 mm for the non-air suspension version. If consumers choose the rear bumper decorative element, the total length of the vehicle increases to 5,302 mm with a front overhang of 995 mm and rear 1,177 mm.

For the pure electric variant, Datang will be built on BYD's latest Super e platform which carries a 1,000V high voltage architecture. This system is combined with a 10C fast charging technology battery and an 1,000A current, which is claimed to be able to deliver charging power of up to 1,000 kW. This means that battery recharging can take place very quickly.
