JAKARTA - Suzuki finally launched its first electric car in Indonesia at the 2026 IIMS event. The car is the e VITARA which has a price tag of Rp700 million, then what is the reason Suzuki gives that price in the midst of cheap Chinese electric cars.

Suzuki plans to start distributing e VITARA to Indonesian consumers in February 2026. The DKI Jakarta OTR price is IDR 755 million (single tone) and IDR 758 million (two tone), it is IDR 4 million more expensive than its twin, the Toyota Urban Cruiser.

The manufacturer with the S emblem revealed the reason behind the e Vitara being priced quite high, namely exclusivity and capability. As stated by the Deputy of Sales and Marketing Managing Director of PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) Dony Ismi Saputra.

"Yes, so the price represents exclusivity. Represents exclusivity and susuki capabilities. So that's the key word. Because according to us, Evitara has its own place. And each product also has its own positioning," said Dony on the sidelines of IIMS 2026, Friday, February 13.

"Why is it exclusive? Because this Evitara product is part of Suzuki's history. It is one step of a multi-pathway, where we enter the electric vehicle battery. So when consumers buy e VITARA, they also get pieces of history that exist in Suzuki," he continued.

Dony added that the second reason was Suzuki's capabilities related to SUVs, as well as its presence in Indonesia and the world. He claimed that Suzuki has a long track record and has credibility there.

"We in Indonesia have been 50 years and we are one of them, yes we may claim yes, as one of the automotive producers, who have a long track record and have credibility there," he said.

Regarding specifications, the Suzuki e VITARA is built using the HEARTECT-e platform, which was developed specifically for electric vehicles. This structure allows for optimal weight distribution, increased aerodynamic efficiency, and a wider cabin space.

The e VITARA car is equipped with a 61 kWh Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery, combined with an electric motor with 128 kW power and 193 Nm torque through a front-wheel-drive eAxle system. This electric SUV also supports DC fast charging, which allows charging from 15 percent to 80 percent in about 50 minutes.
