JAKARTA - Chinese automaker BYD is preparing to strengthen its vehicle portfolio in Indonesia by introducing the premium off-road SUV, Denza B5. The Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) model has been introduced to the public at the BCA Expoversary 2026 event and is now rumored to be waiting for the momentum of the official launch.

Head of Public and Government Relations PT BYD Motor Indonesia Luther T Panjaitan, said that the unit on display had used a right-hand steering configuration. This indicates that Denza B5 is indeed prepared for the domestic market.

"It's already the right steering wheel, currently still assessing market attention. It's ready to be launched. For timing, we're still waiting for the right moment," said Luther at a press conference at IIMS 2026, Tuesday, February 10.

The Denza B5 is designed to target consumers with an active lifestyle who need a tough vehicle without sacrificing comfort. This SUV is positioned as a premium electrification product that combines cruising ability with modern safety technology.

Luther emphasized that the Denza B5 represents BYD's strategy in providing electrification technology that is relevant to user needs in Indonesia.

"Denza B5 prioritizes the balance between capability, technology, and comfort. Our focus is on how the technology works in an integrated way to support driver safety and confidence," he said.

Globally, the Denza B5 is also known as Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5. This SUV is built on a modern architecture designed to be able to handle various road conditions, ranging from off-road trails to daily use in urban areas.

The embedded Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) technology integrates the battery directly into the frame structure, thereby increasing body rigidity while strengthening protection in the event of a collision. In the foot-foot sector, the Denza B5 is equipped with the DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic suspension system which is able to adjust the damping characteristics in real-time.

This system helps maintain vehicle stability when crossing heavy terrain. Its off-road capabilities are also impressive with an approach angle of 39 degrees and a departure angle of 35 degrees, and it claims to be able to wade through water up to a depth of 790 mm.

In terms of performance, the Denza B5 carries a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine combined with two electric motors with all-wheel drive (AWD). The combination produces power in the range of 500-600+ HP with a torque of 760 Nm. Thanks to the mix, this SUV is able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 4.3-4.8 seconds.

Entering the cabin, the premium feel is felt through the use of Nappa Leather material on all seats. Comfort features such as massage, heating, and ventilation are also provided to improve long-distance driving experience.

The entertainment system relies on a 15.6-inch infotainment screen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with audio quality enhanced by a 16-speaker Devialet 800-watt device. In the safety sector, the Denza B5 is equipped with 11 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package that includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Lane Keeping Assist.

Although it has not been officially launched and does not have a price tag, Luther revealed that Denza B5 has begun to attract consumer attention after being pampered. He said, there have been a number of parties who have expressed interest and made early reservations even though this vehicle has just been introduced to the public.
