JAKARTA - Nissan's latest electric crossover, the NX8, has officially come off the mass production line at the Dongfeng-Nissan facility located in Guangzhou, China. This model is scheduled to launch in the domestic market in March to April 2026.
Launching from Carnewschina, Thursday, January 29, the Nissan NX8 comes with two powertrain options, namely Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV). NX8 is the third product in the Dongfeng-Nissan N electric series, following the N6 and N7 sedans introduced last year.
Based on China EV DataTracker, the total cumulative sales of this series have reached 52,769 units. Mass production of the NX8 itself officially began on January 28, 2026.
Nissan confirmed the first mass-produced NX8 unit came off the assembly line on January 28 in its signature purple livery. Production takes place at the Dongfeng-Nissan Huadu plant, Guangzhou.
The main facility of the joint venture has an annual production capacity of up to 600,000 units. Interestingly, the first NX8 produced carries a license plate with the inscription "000001".
This signal is considered a symbol of Nissan's ambition to make the NX8 the best-selling model, with sales targets approaching 1 million units globally. This aggressive target also opens up opportunities for expansion abroad.
Previously, Dongfeng-Nissan said it would start exporting its electric vehicles to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and a number of other regions starting in 2026. The NX8 is the first Nissan-branded electric SUV developed in China.
This car is built on the same platform as the N7 sedan. In terms of dimensions, the NX8 has a length of 4,870 mm, a width of 1,920 mm, a height of 1,680 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,917 mm. The V-motion design language is still maintained, combined with a 2.4-meter-long LED halo light strip at the front, giving a strong futuristic impression.
Entering the cabin, the NX8 is equipped with a dual screen layout, two-spoke steering wheel, modern gear shift lever, and two wireless charging pads. Other features include a head-up display and a LiDAR-based sensor driving assistance system, which enables Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) functions both on urban roads and highways.
For its power kitchen, the Nissan NX8 is available in two main configurations. The EREV variant combines a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 109 kW (146 hp) power with an electric motor of 195 kW (261 hp) that drives the rear wheels.
The model is offered with three battery options - 20.3 kWh, 21.1 kWh, and 37.4 kWh with pure electric range between 102 and 185 km. Meanwhile, the BEV version comes with two electric motor options with a capacity of 215 kW (288 hp) and 250 kW (335 hp), as well as a 73 kWh and 81 kWh battery pack.
In a single charge, the NX8 EV is claimed to be able to travel up to 565-650 km. With these specifications, Nissan NX8 is projected to be the new backbone of Nissan's electrification strategy, as well as a serious challenger in the mid-range electric SUV segment.
