JAKARTA - Volvo Car Malaysia has added to its portfolio by officially launching the Volvo ES90. This distinctive electric crossover sedan arrives in the form of a CKD local assembly.

Citing the Paultan website, Friday, January 23, this model comes in the same Ultra Single Motor Extended Range variant as in Thailand, the ES90 is priced at 339,888 ringgit or a range of Rp1.4 billion including insurance.

As part of the launch, the first 100 buyers who place an order by March 31 will receive a 2 percent discount with corporate buyers getting 8 percent in fleet assistance. These prices include a five-year warranty, unlimited mileage and an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty, plus five years of digital services (subscription required afterwards), and delivery will begin in March.

The ES90 is built on the same second-generation Scalable Product Architecture (SPA2) as the EX90. With an exact length of 5,000 mm and a width of 1,942 mm, it is 60 mm shorter but 42 mm wider than the i5, and thanks to the increased ground clearance, it is 1,547 mm higher at 32 mm. It also has a wheelbase 107 mm longer at 3,102 mm.

The power comes from a single rear motor, here producing 333 PS (245 kW) and 480 Nm of torque. With the engine, the ES90 gets from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.

The ES90's range is ahead of the BMW. Thanks to a 92 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that is more energy dense, compared to the 83.9 kWh in the i5, Volvo can travel up to 651 km on the WLTP cycle, which is slightly further than its rival's 627 km.

The model is also supported by fast charging of the 800 volt electric architecture, which allows for fast DC charging up to 300 kW, recharging from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes.
