JAKARTA - After being introduced briefly in July 2024, Red Bull Racing finally locked in the final design of their first legal hypercar that can drive on the highway. Named RB17, this model will start being marketed this year with a look that is now much sharper, aggressive, and full of Formula 1 DNA.
Reported by Motor1, Monday, January 5, the RB17 was born from Red Bull's racing philosophy, namely fast without compromise. Compared to the prototype version, the production model looks slimmer and more precise, as if every curve of its body was made for one purpose, penetrating the air as efficiently as possible for maximum speed.
The front now looks cleaner but still fierce. A pair of slim LED lights blend into the sculpted carbon body, emphasizing the modern hypercar character that is directly inspired by the race track.
Each panel is designed to allow air to flow smoothly from the nose to the stern. On the side, the carbon body is divided by deep air ducts that direct the flow directly to the large rear cooling area.
The air intake on the roof channels oxygen to the center engine, while the large center fin at the stern resembles the Le Mans prototype, which is both a dramatic and functional cover. Despite its strong roots in the racing world, the RB17 still carries a number of elements typical of road cars.
The presence of the rearview mirror and windshield wiper confirms that this hypercar is very close to the final production specifications. Entering the cabin, the feel of a racing car is absolute. There is no touch screen or digital distraction.
The cockpit is dominated by physical buttons, with the entire layout focused on performance and lap times, from the seating position, steering wheel, to driver visibility. The heart of the RB17 is a 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine developed by Cosworth.
This engine is capable of spinning up to 15,000 rpm and producing around 1,000 horsepower. This performance is strengthened by an additional 200 hp electric motor, so that the total output reaches 1,200 hp.
All power is routed to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission, coupled with a hydraulically locked active limited-slip differential. Uniquely, the hybrid system is specifically tasked with handling reverse gears.
Red Bull will only produce 50 units of the RB17 worldwide, currently undergoing final testing. Although the official price tag has not been announced, this hypercar is almost certainly priced well above the seven-digit figure.
