JAKARTA - Perodua Traz has officially launched in Malaysia some time ago. The B-segment SUV which is the twin of the Toyota Yaris Cross immediately caught the attention of the market, one of which is by winning five stars from ASEAN NCAP.

Hours after its release, the vehicle safety agency announced the results of the complete crash test and released its official video. In the 2021-2025 assessment protocol, Traz scored a total of 86.86 points.

Perodua Traz scored an Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) score of 30.86 points out of a total of 32, and Child Occupant Protection (COP) 43.89 points out of a total of 51.

In the active safety feature sector, Perodua Traz also recorded a high value. In the Safety Assist (SA) category, this model scored 19.5 points out of 21, and in the Motorcycle Rider Safety (MS) category, it got 10 points out of 16.

The result makes Traz the second Perodua model in the last month to achieve five ASEAN NCAP stars. Previously, Perodua QV-E EV also recorded a total score of 88.36 points.

Overall, the QV-E is slightly superior in total score, but Traz was able to record a better crash score on AOP and COP. The difference is slight, and both are categorized as very safe.

Interestingly, the crash test for the Toyota Yaris Cross has also been conducted by MIROS PC3 in Melaka earlier this year. The Indonesian-made Toyota model scored a total of 83.02 points, lower than Traz, even though it used the same assessment protocol.

In terms of feature completeness, Traz comes with six airbags and Perodua's ASA safety package, including pre-collision warning and braking (AEB including pedestrians), front lane departure warning, to pedal misoperation control.

There is also blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning/prevention, rear cross traffic warning, and front and rear corner sensors. Traz is offered starting from the X variant for 76,100 Malaysian ringgit, with a rear parking camera as standard.

Switching to the H variant for 81,100 ringgit or 82,000 ringgit for the two-color option presents a 360-degree camera and a dashcam. However, there is one thing that is quite unfortunate, Traz is not equipped with adaptive cruise control (ACC), even the regular cruise control is not yet available.

In fact, this feature is already a standard feature in several other Perodua models such as Ativa, Alza, and Myvi facelift. Even so, the absence of ACC does not seem to reduce the attractiveness of Traz in its class.

If you look at the competitors, similar active safety features actually come at a higher price. For example, on the latest Proton X50 facelift, consumers must choose the Premium variant for 101,800 ringgit to get AEB and a complete ADAS package.
