JAKARTA BMW USA has just announced the special edition variant M2 Turbo Design Edition 2026 at Petit Le Mans 2025.

In the sports car resistance competition held annually at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, United States, BMW introduced its limited edition which was not just an ordinary M2 but was made a direct tribute to European turbo pioneer BMW 2002 turbo (1974-1975).

It is known that the 02 series in the 70s was key in probing BMW as a manufacturer that was proficient in combining attractive all-around performances with everyday practice. 2002 turbo proved that performance intensity could be improved without compromising functionality.

M2 Turbo Design Edition also carries the same ethic. The car is claimed to be able to combine a thrilling driving experience on the road or track, with convenience for daily use on the highway.

Quoted from the BMW USA page, Monday, October 13, this special edition comes exclusively in shiny Alpine White colors, decorated with design details that directly refer to its predecessor. The M2 Turbo Iconist lines come exclusively in Alpine White colors and display hand-painted M tricolor lines, stretching from the base of the windshield to the edge of the engine hood, and frame the top of the trunk cap.

Meanwhile, the coolest exterior detail is the retro "turbo" that is embedded in the hood of the spinning black power-dome engine. Why is it upside down? When viewed through the rearview mirror, the writing will read correctly, just like the one in the 1974 air and car. There is also a special Turbo badge on the trunk cap and the roof of the carbon fiber decorated with a smooth three-color M line.

"Turbo" continues into the interior. When entering, the driver will be greeted with a door threshold plate containing "M2 Turbo". The interior is also enriched with the standard Jok Sport M wrapped in a Black Vernasca Skin with M Color Accent, as well as a standard Carbon Serat trim interior. In front of the manual pressneling lever, there is a "turbo" plate on the M line background, highlighting its peculiarities. State-of-the-art equipment such as Live Cockpit Professional with Head-Up Display is also standard.

The most interesting thing is the choice of transmission. This car is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo engine measuring 473 hp, the same as a standard M2. However, unlike the usual M2 which offers an automatic option, this M2 Turbo Design Edition is only available with a manual transmission of six accelerations.

In terms of performance, if Turbo 2002 is BMW's first experiment with turbocharging on a production vehicle, M2 Turbo Design Edition 2026 takes full advantage of technological advances for more than 50 years. Acceleration of 0-100 km/hour will be equivalent to a special non-editional M2, which is about 3.9 seconds. While the highest speed can reach 250 km/hour or 285 km/hour if using M Drivers Package.

Scarcity And Premium Price

Just like 2002 Turbo, which only produces 1,672 units, the M2 Turbo Design Edition will also be very rare. BMW says the car will be made in "very limited number" when production starts in January 2026.

This scarcity certainly comes at a premium price. This car is priced at 84,075 US dollars (around Rp1.4 billion).
