Audi Officially Launches Audi E5 Sportback, New Electric Car For The Chinese Market

JAKARTA - Audi officially started a new chapter in China's automotive market by launching production as well as opening the pre-sales stage for its first electric car specifically designed for local consumers: Audi E5 Sportback.

This car is the result of a strategic collaboration between Audi and its partners in China, SAIC, officially launching from the assembly line at the Audi special production facility in Anting, Shanghai, on August 18, 2025. At the same time, pre-sales have been opened, and the first unitary delivery to consumers is scheduled for September.

"Each vehicle from the Audi brand combines the best of the two worlds: iconic design, premium quality, technical precision, and emotional driving dynamics, coupled with China's cutting-edge technology, innovation, and digital ecosystem," said Audi-SAIC project CEO Ferm

The statement demonstrates Audi's commitment to creating vehicles that not only carry German premium DNA, but are also fully adapted to China's consumer needs and preferences.

To support this production, the two partners have built state-of-the-art production facilities at the SAIC Volkswagen site in Anting. The plant is equipped with high-level automation, up-to-date technologies such as machine learning for quality monitoring, and a fully digital production management system. The initial stage, about 700 employees will produce Audi E5 Sportback, and two other Audi models are scheduled to follow in the next two years.

Extraordinary Performance And Technology

Audi E5 Sportback comes as a four-door electric fastback that combines a dynamic proportion to impressive performance. This car offers up to 579 kW of power and a maximum distance of 770 km.

With four different powertrain options, including rear wheel drive or quattro, E5 Sportback promises a dynamic driving experience, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/hour in just 3.4 seconds. Built on a new platform called Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP), the car also offers the functionality of next-generation connected vehicles and over-the-air (OTA) updates for the entire system.

With the start of this production and pre-sales, Audi-SAIC is ready to provide a trade experience without compromise for Chinese customers, as well as mark the start of a new era of Smart Connected Vehicles (ICV).
