JAKARTA - Based on data from Gaikindo, PHEV's car sales have grown in recent months.

The latest from May-June it rose to 170.4 percent or touched the sales figure of 1,117 units in June.

Meanwhile, in the previous month, April to May also experienced growth. In fact, up to 900 percent more with details in April 41 sales, and up to 413 units in May.

ByD Motor Indonesia, which is successful with a complete line of pure electric vehicles or BEV, does not rule out the possibility to play in that segment as well.

As revealed by the Head of Public & Government Relations of PT BYD Motor Indonesia Luther Panjaitan, revealing several things.

"ByD is also one of the global key players in the PHEV segment, so that it is a form of our level confidence in product and technology excellence. In Indonesia, PHEV is seen as an alternative transition to answer consumer needs for a sense of security for charging infrastructure, as well as providing energy-efficient mobility for urban use and medium distance," he said when contacted by VOI, Saturday, August 18.

He claims that the PHEV technology and products from BYD are considered ready. However, its implementation in Indonesia will be determined by market evaluation, infrastructure readiness, and the sustainability of the service and safety ecosystem which is the focus of BYD.

"Of course we are optimistic about the response to the Indonesian automotive market where this is reinforced by the achievements of BYD and DENZA which managed to control 53.8 percent of the national EV market share in January 'July 2025, with sales of more than 22,600 units. This achievement reflects the high public trust in the quality and innovation of BYD Group," he explained.

BYD's Implementation In Neighboring Countries

Thailand is one of the promising markets for BYD. The proof is that this Chinese brand has produced many car line-ups, including the Sealion 6 DM-i Super Hybrid.

The car packs 1,500 cc engines plus an electric motor and battery with a capacity of 18.3 kWh. Interestingly, the PHEV model is priced at around Rp423 million.

Of course, it is very interesting to wait, whether this model will also greet the Indonesian automotive market.
