JAKARTA - Automotive manufacturer from Germany, BMW officially launched an entry-level racing car called M2 Racing for various prestigious competitions in the world of motorsport.

The car was introduced after manufacturers had hinted at its presence since last year and would be the successor to several previous models, namely M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and M2 CS Racing.

BMW M GmbH CEO Francis van Meel said this one race car has an easier and cheaper maintenance scale but is still fun to drive on track racing.

"This car is affordable as well as offers unmatched driving performance, durability, and pleasure for racing teams and drivers. At BMW M Motorsport, supporting customer racing with easy-to-care, cost-effective, and exciting cars is a top priority," van Meel said on the official BMW Group website, Monday, April 28.

BMW M GmbH Head of Customer Racing, Bjorn Lellmann added that this car has cheaper operations so it is suitable for lower-level racing events, although it is hoped that it will be easily accessible to more racing teams.

"Development is carried out through close cooperation between BMW M Motorsport and experts from series production. The result is a powerful racing car that combines easy operation with low operational costs. This efficiency makes BMW M2 Racing very attractive to the lowest level of motorization and makes racing more accessible to customers," added Lellmann.

Based on the standard M2, this car has up to 313 hp of power and can run up to a maximum speed of 270 km/hour.

The basic version of BMW M2 Racing is pegged at a price of 98,000 euros, equivalent to Rp. 1.874 billion and distributed through certain BMW M Motorsport dealers.

This car will be included in competitive events starting early next year, one of which is in the 24 Hours Nurburgring event in Germany.
