The Indonesian Government Ends the Handling of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Memory Today, August 4, 2023

JAKARTA - Today's memory, three years ago, August 4, 2023, President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 48 of 2023 concerning the End of Handling the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Presidential Regulation makes the institutions that handle the pandemic officially disbanded.

Previously, the COVID-19 pandemic had made the whole of Indonesia a hassle. The rapid transmission of the virus brought panic everywhere. The victims of the soul fell. Indonesia's economy fell to its lowest level.

The presence of the COVID-19 pandemic has made the world panic. The narrative is because the corona virus can spread quickly and spread everywhere. The virus from Wuhan then spread to Indonesia, although it was underestimated.

Later, the rapid transmission made the whole of Nusantara panic. This condition was exacerbated by the government which was still confused about taking anticipatory steps. This confusion made the corona virus more and more worsen the atmosphere.

The number of casualties increased. Indonesia's economy fell to its lowest level. The government also does not want the situation to get worse. They are trying to follow the recommendations of the World Health Organization, WHO. Social activity restrictions are carried out.

Activities that crowd the crowd are stopped. Direct buying and selling activities are restricted. Those who go to school are asked to do it from home by utilizing current technology. This step is actually not enough.

The government continues to fall and rise to break the chain of transmission of the corona virus. This condition makes President Jokowi speak out. He asked the public to live side by side with the corona virus.

Jokowi considers the vaccine to be the only way to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19. He tried to prove this by being the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in January 2021.

"I will be the first to be vaccinated, I want to show that the vaccine is safe because it has gone through clinical trials not just once or twice. But we are still waiting for the results of the test, it will be the name of the emergency use permit from BPOM which is expected to come out this week or next week. After that, a day or two after that, I will be the first to be vaccinated," said Jokowi as quoted by lamandetik.com, January 7, 2021.

Jokowi's decision to consider vaccination as the main way to fight COVID-19 brought change. The number of infections began to decrease in the year after vaccination was carried out intensively. This condition made the owner of the power declare victory over the resistance to COVID-19.

The narrative was then supplemented by President Jokowi issuing Presidential Regulation Number 48 of 2023 concerning the End of Handling the COVID-19 Pandemic on August 4, 2023. The presidential regulation is like the end of Indonesia's journey against COVID-19.

The government also began to consider COVID-19, which was originally a pandemic, as an endemic. As a result, all kinds of official corona virus handling institutions were disbanded.

"With this Presidential Regulation, the Corona Virus Disease 2O19 (COVID-I9) Handling Committee and the National Economic Recovery are declared to have ended their term of office and disbanded," read Article 1 of the Presidential Regulation.
