BANDAR LAMPUNG - A number of researchers in the field of Atmospheric Science and Planetary Science of the Sumatra Technology Institute (Itera) immediately descended on Astomulyo Village, Dusun 5, Punggur District, Central Lampung. The research team will confirm the truth of the meteor rock falling in the village.

"Currently, it is not known whether the sample is an ordinary rock or a meteorite, because in the afternoon we will go directly to confirm it," said Lecturer at the Atmospheric and Planetary Science Study Program (Itera), Robiatul Muztaba, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 29th.

He said the research team would go directly and carry out laboratory tests to confirm the elements contained in the rock that was thought to be a meteor.

"We will test it in the laboratory first, whether the rock is similar on earth or from outer space. Later tonight, we may have general results regarding the truth of the elements in the rock," he said.

According to him, at this time it is also uncertain regarding the explosion that had occurred on Thursday, January 28 evening.

"The explosion cannot be ascertained yet, because if a meteor shower should have elongated light, but for the meteor shower cycle the peak has occurred on January 3 to 4. For samples owned by residents, we will first examine the elements contained," he said.

The same thing was said by the Head of Punggur Sub-District, Priyadi. "We have checked to the location, precisely in Kampung Astomulyo, Dusun 5, Punggur Subdistrict, Central Lampung, regarding a rock that is thought to be a meteor fell," said Priyadi.

He said the diameter of the rock thought to be a meteor was around 25 centimeters with a weight of 2 kilograms.

"According to residents, the stone fell during lightning on Thursday night, but it has not been confirmed whether it was a meteorite or not and it is not related to the explosion, which is certain for when we prevent crowds because the residents' enthusiasm is quite high," he said.

Photos and videos of so-called meteors have been shared on social media. This stone is also immersed in water and there are residents who take water from this stone pool because it is believed to be effective.
