JAKARTA - Jesy Nelson has just released her first single titled Boyz on Friday, October 8. This song is his latest work after leaving the Little Mix group.
Moments after it was released, Jesy Nelson reaped blasphemy in the release of his first song. This is because not a few people think that Jesy Nelson is doing blackfishing.
The term blackfishing is a term for those who change their skin color to a dark color. Not a few netizens compared Jesy Nelson's skin a few years ago which was lighter in color compared to now.
Jesy Nelson's solo debut #Boyz is cute and the video was a fun 00s throwback. But it's 4 minutes of blatant cultural appropriation:- The Blackfishing- Lowriders and bikes- Gold teeth- The Blackfishing- The aesthetic- The hair- The lollipops- THE BLACKFISHING😩😩😩 pic.twitter.com/YtZ3qzRxZy

Jesy Nelson also responded to netizens' criticism through an interview with Vulture. "In all my time at Little Mix, I've never had anything like that. And then I go back to music and people say that," said Jesy Nelson quoted on Monday, October 11.
“But I love black culture. I love black people's music. That's what I know; this is how i develop. I realized I was a white woman from England; I never said I wasn't that."
Later, netizens also found that some comments about blackfishing on Jesy Nelson's Instagram had been deleted.
“I know comments like this are deleted from my Instagram account. Turns out my management deleted the comment. I spend time being bullied online so I limit myself on social media,” he explained.
But regardless, Jesy Nelson accepts all the comments he reads. "I never intended to do that so I was surprised when I saw (blackfishing) being directed at me."
Jesy Nelson left Little Mix last December. This year he started joining Polydor last May as a soloist.
