Melanie Subono Is Preparing For Mother's Film

JAKARTA - Singer and presenter Melanie Subono said that women can be strong figures in any work environment, one of which is in the world of film.

According to her, women need very strong guts when in a work environment where the majority of them are done by men.

"It definitely takes strong guts, because it's not uncommon to hear friends who because they are women are underestimated. But now I myself have seen many female directors," said Melanie Subono in the Webinar Series of the Indonesian Journalists Film Festival (FFWI) entitled "The Role and Position of Women in Indonesian Film", Tuesday, September 21.

Although women have been heavily involved in the production of films and soap operas behind the scenes, Melanie Subono said the most important thing is the portrayal of women in front of the screen.

"For me, what is more important is how women are portrayed in films or soap operas," said Melanie Subono.

"It's useless if all the perpetrators are women, but when in the film women are depicted as weak and tormented, who are as strong as they can but want to accept the role of being a wife to so many," he continued.

Because of that Melanie ventured to make a film called Mother. "Through this film, I want to describe the strongest creature, mother. There is a thumb, the motherland. So I will combine songs from five regions and the shooting is also done in the five regions where the songs come from," he said.

Mother is Melanie Subono's debt to BJ Habibie. "This film was actually the idea of Grandmother Habibie. I don't know anything about films, because they only played all this time. Finally got up the courage to make it. The plan is for Mother's film to be released on Mother's Day, December 22," he explained.
