JAKARTA - Tom Hanks' latest film, Greyhound will be released on the Apple TV + streaming service. July 10 will be the official date for the film.

The decision to release Greyhound on Apple TV + was due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Initially, the film was scheduled to open on May 8 in theaters. But because at that time the pandemic was already underway, a number of production houses postponed its broadcast.

The option to show films via streaming services or OTT (over the top) is starting to be seriously looked at. Greyhounds do the same.

Directed by Aaron Schneider, Greyhound follows Captain Ernest Krause (Tom Hanks) who becomes commander of the United States Navy. He is on an international convoy mission of 37 ships across the Atlantic Ocean.

Soldiers must face various obstacles to complete the mission. As leader, Krause also had to manage thousands of troops and ship supplies.

Produced by Gary Goetzman, Greyhound is adapting the CS Forester novel entitled The Good Shepherd. The script for this film was written entirely by Tom Hanks as the main character.

Greyhound is the third film to choose a digital release after Trolls World Tour and SCOOB!

The film is also a full-fledged Apple production after launching Hala, The Banker, and Beastie Boys Story. Apple TV + began to focus on production for its streaming services to compete with other streaming services.

Greyhound will release on Apple TV + on July 10.
